About me

I am an enthusiastic Finnish birder and photographer with favorite areas in some lighthouse islands in the outer Finnish archipelago. Particularly important is the island of Utö, where I own an old, cosy pilothouse with my spouse Outi Sarjakoski. That house has been my permanent all-year residence since 2010. A few visits abroad every year (particularly in the WP-area) give more variability and our favourite birding countries include for example Egypt, Spain and Norway.

My primary camera equipment comprises Canon 1DX + Canon 500 mm/f4 IS II USM  + 1.4x teleconverter.
As the second and third camera I have Canon EOS 60D and Canon EOS 40D with Canon lenses EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM zoom and EF17-40mm F4L USM wide angle, respectively. During fieldtrips I use pocketsized Canon PowerShot S90 for occasional events.

I also do digiscoping (but seldom) with a combination of Sony Cybershot and Swarowski telescope with 45 WA magnification.
My binoculars are Swarowski EL 12 x 50 (Swarovision). The Gitzo tripod (No 3531, carbon fiber) supports a Manfrotto 503HDV for the camera.
