About me

I am an active birdwatcher and bird photographer from Utö in Parainen , with over 60 years of experience in the hobby (I am one of the founding members of the Turku Ornithological Society). My favorite destination is the outer archipelago, especially the lighthouse island of Utö, where my wife, Outi Sarjakoski, and I have an old archipelago farm that serves as our base. I moved permanently to Utö in 2010. Every year, I try to take a few birding and photography trips abroad (to the WP region). My favorite destinations in recent years have been Spain, Portugal, and Norway.

My primary photography setup consists of a Sony A1 II + FE 400-800 mm f/6.3-8 G OSS + a 1.4x teleconverter. I also use a Sony A7 Mk V with a Sigma 500/f5.6 DG DN lens.
For Outi’s camera, we have a Sony A7 Mk V with a Sony SEL 70-350 F4.5-6.3 G OSS lens. For landscape and travel photography, we also use a Sony RX100 VI compact camera.

I watch birds through my Swarovski ATX 30-70×115 spotting scope, which has a 1.7x teleconverter.
Our binoculars include the Swarovski EL 10×32, the Kite APC 12×42 ED, the Canon 15×50 IS AW, the Kowa 10×32 SV, and a Gitzo tripod (carbon fiber, No. 3531) is a Manfrotto 503HDV video head for the camera.
